Theorists live on through the Freaks & Geeks

Freaks and Geeks was a "mastermind" television show that aired before it's time.  The series chronicles the lives of high school students in the early 80's and specifically focuses on two groups: The Freaks and Geeks.  Throughout the pilot episode we learn of the power struggle between "Bullies" and "Geeks", between "Freaks and Geeks", between "athletes" and "mathletes."  We learn about Lindsey and her struggle to find herself.  As she experiments with new people, new styles, and  new interests she begins to take interest in the freaks.  Sociological roots stem from theorist: Durkheim, Weber, and Marx.  Through their theories, societal change is analyzed.  Conflict that is seen as necessary in society, symbols that teach people how to behave and respond to one another,  and myriad parts working together to ensure a functional society are the contents behind these theories.  Through Freaks & Geeks we can see how each of these theories play a role in the high school setting.
